DENVER — License plate thefts are on the rise, the Denver Police Department said Monday.

Since the first of the year, police said more than 950 plates have been reported stolen, typically to commit other crimes, police said.

Police advised car owners to park inside a garage, if possible, in well-lit areas and install anti-theft screws that require unique tools to remove the plates. The screws can be purchased at hardware or auto parts stores.
