DENVER — Coffee is one of the most commonly consumed products in the world. From Bosnia to New Zealand to the U.S., coffee fans consume some seven metric tons of the beverage each year.

While we think of the United States as being the world’s most caffeine-addled country, that’s not quite right — the U.S. ranks 25th in overall per capita coffee consumption.

But we do still have some of the most coffee-addled professionals, according to a new survey by U.K.-based Pressat.  While the survey respondents presumably skewed British, we have little trouble believing the results of a U.S. study would be similar.

Out of 10,000 professionals surveyed, 85 percent said they drink at least three cups of coffee a day, and nearly 70 percent said that their working ability would be affected without a daily mug of coffee.

Recent research carried out by the University of South Carolina has found that the daily recommended dose should not exceed 200mg of caffeine per day, which is equivalent to about four cups of coffee.

On average, the survey found that men drink more coffee than women, but only slightly more at 5 percent.

Here are the ten top professions for coffee drinking, according to the survey:

    1. Journalists and media staff
    2. Police officers
    3. Teachers
    4. Plumbers and trade workers
    5. Nurses and medical staff
    6. Company executives
    7. Telephone sales
    8. IT technical support
    9. Retail staff
    10. Drivers
