IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. — An accident involving two motorcycles on eastbound Interstate 70 shut down part of the highway for several hours Saturday night.

The accident happened just after 5 p.m. at the Hidden Valley exit just east of Idaho Springs.

Two men and one woman were on the motorcycles at the time and suffered injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol. One male was airlifted and the other two transported by ambulance.

There were no updates as of 9:30 p.m. as to the conditions of the motorcyclists or what led to the accident.

Eastbound Interstate 70 was shut down for several hours as the accident was investigated. One lane was opened at 6:25 p.m. At 8:50 p.m., one lane and the shoulder were opened to allow traffic past the accident.

Traffic was backed up for 10 miles to the Berthoud Pass exit, according to Colorado State Patrol officials.

Colorado State Patrol officials advised travelers to use alternative routes such as U.S. 6 to Clear Creek Canyon if possible to avoid extended delays.
