LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Officers ended the search for a 4-year-old who ran away for several hours after being found unattended with another 2-year-old, the Lakewood Police Department said Monday.

Police said they received a call from a citizen about 10:45 a.m. about the children who were alone near West 18th Avenue and Kendall Street.

The citizen attempted to have the boys wait for police, but one of them ran away and headed north on Kendall.

The child was found just before 2:30 p.m. The other child was in the care of the mother, Lakewood police said.

A Code Red reverse 911 alert was sent to residents of the area asking the public to notify police if they saw the child.
