DENVER — A Colorado State Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries after being involved in a hit-and-run on Interstate 25 north of downtown early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened in the northbound lanes near east 51st Avenue, the Colorado State Patrol said. The trooper, identified as 12-year veteran Clinton Stanton, 46, was completing a traffic stop on the shoulder when his patrol vehicle was struck from behind as he was sitting inside.

The driver involved in the hit-and-run, identified as Jose Ramirez, 21, fled the scene before stopping and taking off on foot, the Denver Police Department said. He was later apprehended by Adams County sheriff’s deputies.
Ramirez will face charges of DUI, failure to yield and leaving the scene of an accident, Denver police said.

Stanton was transported to North Suburban Medical Center with unknown moderate injuries. He was released from the hospital later Tuesday morning.
The three right lanes of I-25 were blocked off for more than three hours as law enforcement investigated, causing massive traffic delays in the area. All of the lanes were reopened about 8:15 a.m.
